George Abbot was born in 1562 in Guildford. He went the Free Grammar School before going to Oxford University. He was appointed Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield, and became Bishop of London in 1610. A year later In 1611 he was enthroned as Archbishop of Canterbury. He crowned Charles 1st in 1626 and died in 1633.
Grants of £50 - £1,250 can be awarded to qualifying individuals for fees, facilities, courses and the like as well as for any school, college, university or other place of learning approved by the Trustees. Applicants must be in need of financial assistance. Letters of support from a professional or someone who knows the individual would be useful.
Applications need to be with the Clerk by the end of the month preceeding the meeting. It is possible that applications could be considered as emergencies between these times.
As the Archbishop Abbot's Exhibition Foundation is a small one, we support young people who need us the most with grant from £50 to £1,000 depending on circumstance. The main criteria for qualification are below.
To cover the cost of fees or maintenance at the place of learning. For books, equipment, clothing, tools etc required for a course, or required after a course to prepare for entry in to a profession or trade. To cover the cost or recreational pursuites while at the college or school, including sports, music and other artistic activities.
